Derelicts are really only good to run, imo, once you have a freighter. The only loot drop that is worth the effort is the exclusive cargohold expansion or the tech upgrades( both for freighters) that drop. Otherwise all the other loot in them is basically just to kind of make up for the cost of the transponder thing you have to buy.Im not a big fan of attacking fleets. As far as Im aware - they nerfed the chance to get them with recent updates anyway. Plus I dont want to lose standings with other races. I did derelict freighter once, but got nothing there either.
