It does come on when the engine is warm but the transmission is cold (e.g. remote start in driveway, warming up but not driven… not even shifted out of park). Once the engine is warm the light is much more likely to come on. A day later, the VTM-4 light came on. Then, the next day, both the check engine light and VTM-4 light went off and I thought the issue with the gas cap was over. So, this turned out to be a bad left front (wheel) sensor. Because the sensor was completely shot, the computer interpreted that as having mulitple issues with that wheel, which is why it threw an ABS (braking), VTM-4 (variable transmission4-wheel drive) and the VSA light (stability), all of these lights get tripped when the sensor is bad.
