In college sports, this problem is especially pronounced. Media reports and some empirical research has noted significant across-sport and within-sport gender/sex differences in coaches’ pay.Black college athletes are at an elevated risk of mental health struggles, and yet, have not received the same attention in the literature as their White counterparts. Cognitive-motivational-relational theory of emotion was used as the theoretical foundation to examine the role of mental health in Black college athletes.Historically, the NCAA has been the central governing body for intercollegiate sport. The NCAA serves as the athletic and academic measure for athletic programs by setting academic, experiential, and athletic requirements under the guise of amateurism and corporate responsibility (Polite et al, 2011; Southall & Staurowsky, 2013).
