It works perfectly, the only modification was to open the cartridge loading slot on the magazine tube a wee bit to clear the slightly larger diameter.As I now own 2 pre 1974 Marlin 39A, I am looking to buy a firing pin or 2 to add to my spare parts bin. Sorry that your Marlin 39A had a broken firing pin, that is unusual. Comparing the 39A to the 9422, they are just different. I have both and the 9422 is the clear winner as far as finish, and it is reliable and functioning is very smooth, and has great sights. The 39A has qualities of it's own.

I'd go $375 for a Marlin 39A in decent shape. Thankfully, I don't need to--I already have a 1974-made example that is a GREAT little hunter and shooter.
