Definitely the stator was putting out low numbers and this was evident with the lower battery voltage reading of 13.6vdc with the machine at 5,000rpm. But this is still an acceptable reading.

I'm attaching a picture that has 2 wiring diagrams side by side. The left side is the 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 (Early) wiring diagram and the right side is the 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 (Late). The Late wiring diagram for 2000 is more than likely either the same or extremely close to the 2001.

123 Answers. Polaris uses a stator located under the flywheel for charging. The flywheel is located on the right side of the atv under the pull rope cover. The easiest way to check to make sure the stator is working is to run a continuity and voltage test. There will be 3 yellow wires coming from a grommet on the right back side of the motor.hewismayer · #13 · Jan 27, 2019. fixed mine it was the plug. I soldered the wires together and axed the plug. The voltage regulator is a mosfet type and bleeds off the excess power. Therefore the stator is working at full capacity all the time. I'v checked the battery while running with multimeter and the voltage doesn't change. It has a brand new battery, i rode the other day and it cranked fine all day but when i got home i shut it off for about an hour and got back on it and it wouldn't turn over, charged battery put it back in and it cranked fine.
