Time of day matters. 1to1 horses - infantry. Party size matters most. A party of 200 horse archers moves with 5.7 at max and catches everything.

By the end of the war my army is 50% mercenaries (mainly rescued swordsmen, some manhunters, and a few hired cavalry), 35% cavalry, 40% archers /cbmen, 25% infantry. By this point I only have a handful of c7 units left and most of my cavalry is c4-5. The archers are for slaughtering garrisons and the infantry are for storming.
